ABOUT ME
Nadia Stix
I wanted to play the piano before I could write or read.
Every day on the way to kindergarten, I would stop at the same house. I would grab the fence, refusing to move and gave my grandmother a tantrum. Until one day, instead of dragging me away, she let me ring the bell and ask what was happening inside. And that's how my musical journey began... kinda.
No piano until I learned how to read and write music. So I guess music was the first language I learnt. By the age of four, I had started piano lessons, decoding little black dots on a page before I was "allowed" to make them scream.
Along the way, I sang in choirs, played in rock bands, pop projects, jazz ensembles, and even explored atonal and experimental music, which lead to a fascinating question: how far can my voice go if I remain curious and explore further?
I am fascinated by the voice as an instrument — not just something that puts me in the "what a beautiful voice" category. I like using my instrument as a tool to transform, break, whisper, scream, distort, and reveal things we didn't know were there.
I studied Jazz at EMC in Buenos Aires, part of the Berklee International Network, and performed in many theatres and venues before eventually taking my voice across oceans as a singer on cruise ships, and I started singing in international venues.
About my musical influences? Well, I studied jazz, but I grew up with Alanis Morissette's Jagged Little Pill, grunge in the 90's, Fiona Apple, PJ Harvey, Pulp, Joaquín Sabina, Björk, Nina Simone... artists who showed me that music can be strange, intelligent, vulnerable, wild, rebellious, and still beautiful if it is completely free of preconceptions.
I don't know how to answer when someone asks me what style of music I like or make. For me, music is a state of freedom.
“Unmuted” is my humble first attempt at returning all the emotional luggage I somehow ended up checking in. Turns out, I never needed most of it.
